Christmas in the post-War United States

OK, so even two days before Christmas, you really don’t want to hear me sing.  But, before I head out to do some last-minute shopping, I thought I’d share my 3 favorite Christmas songs with you.  In no particular order, here they are, and as a little Christmas gift to you, I’ve even included YouTube links, so you can enjoy them right now, if you’re so inclined:

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings — performed by Barenaked Ladies & Sara McLachlan:

Mary’s Boy Child — performed by Boney M:

Mele Kalikimaka — performed by Jimmy Buffett (please don’t ask me why the image says Greetings from Florida, when the song is all about Christmas in Hawaii):

Also, if you’re wondering what my Grinch-y side thinks, my 3 least favorites (intentionally without links) are:  1.  The Christmas Shoes (there’s nothing Christmas-y about larceny or dying mothers), 2.  The Hannukah song (I just think it’s obnoxious), and 3.  Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer (my grandma’s birthday was Christmas day, and I miss her terribly.  I could never hear this song without thinking of it really happening, which would really be horrible).

Finally, for the record, Jim has too many favorites to list (and I don’t know which ones he’d put at the top), but Veronica’s favorites are:  Here Comes Santa Claus (, and Dominic the Donkey (  Sabrina’s is Rudolph (  Awwwwww.

I wish you all a very merry Christmas, and I’d love to hear what your favorite Christmas songs are.
